PDP chieftain advocates death penalty for embezzlement

A PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP,  Chieftain in Sokoto State, Muktar Mapia, weekend, advocated death penalty for public office holders found guilty of embezzling public funds.

Mapia said in Sokoto that  such law would bring to an end cases of corrupt practice among public office holders. He said that the nation would have achieved a lot  since independence if proper measures were put in place to check the activities of corrupt public office holders.

He said: “Just take a look at China. Any  public officer found wanting is publicly executed. We have suffered too much  in the hand of corrupt public office holders and it is time to put behind us corruption for the sake of  generation yet unborn.”

He said that the future generation would not “forgive us if we fail to lay a sound economic foundation for them”. He also called on the judiciary to complement the effort of the Federal Government in the fight against corrupt practice.

“For us as a nation to achieve our desire of building a strong and viable country, we must fight corruption in all ramifications“, he said.
