Obi warns Onitsha residents against blocking drainages

By VINCENT UJUMADU
AWKA — UNLESS  inhabitants of Onitsha in Anambra State change their attitude of blocking drainages in the area, the entire town stand the risk of being submerged by flood, Governor Peter Obi has warned.

Obi, who spoke after inspecting the level of work on the on–going reconstruction and expansion of Upper Iweka-Bridge-Head road, said his administration was determined to create a new and healthy business environment, which the people of the state would be proud of.

According to him, some people are frustrating the efforts of government by dumping refuse into the drains.

Governor Obi warned that such blockage could lead to massive flooding that is capable of threatening the entire city.

He enjoined market leaders to support government’s efforts to rebuild the city by discouraging their members from dumping refuse into the drains.

Obi, who was accompanied by the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, who was on visit to the state, wondered why the inhabitants of the town refused to appreciate the efforts of his administration to upgrade infrastructure in the state.
