The Director-General of National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier-General Maharazu I. Tsiga, has said the security of corps members was of utmost importance, particularly with the security challenges the nation is contending with in some states.

Tsiga made the stand of NYSC known at the opening ceremony of 2011 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Orientation workshop in Owerri.

The NYSC boss noted that “to ensure security of corps members, there must be clarity of purpose, role and direction for all stakeholders.”  He stressed that all stakeholders must join hands to surmount the challenge of insecurity of lives and property of corps members.

Tsiga commended Governor Ikedi Ohakim for keeping to his responsibility of giving yearly state subvention and other financial support to the NYSC during orientation courses and passing out activities and a host of other development assistance.

In a message read on behalf of Governor Ikedi Ohakim, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Anyikwa, said the phenomenal growth process of NYSC had meant increase in challenges and complexities in the management of the scheme.

He sought to know the extent Nigerians had been integrated since the establishment of NYSC 38 years ago.

Ohakim urged NYSC management to ensure that the scheme moves with the times, with the changing aspirations of the people of this country and with the policy objectives of the government, so that you will continue to remain relevant.
