Jos— President Goodluck Jonathan has promised to do all within his powers to end the persistent crises in Plateau State and restore it to its former status as a home of peace and tourism.
Addressing a crowd of supporters at the presidential campaign rally held at the Rwang Pam Township, Jos, yesterday, he also promised to implement the 35 per cent affirmative action for women in appointments if elected.
He said there was nothing stopping women in Nigeria from having that much if South Africa could give them as much as 50 per cent and Rwanda even more, adding that he had not been disappointed by his female ministers.
The President challenged women to mobilise and vote massively for PDP to make this dream a reality saying, “I promise we will work with the party and give women 35 per cent ministerial and ambassadorial postings. Vote for us, mobilise women and we can guarantee you this.”
He also re-affirmed the pledge to address the infrastructural challenges facing the country, especially in power generation, roads and water supply, pledging to give every Nigerian equal opportunity irrespective of where they come from.
He said neither him nor his running mate, Vice President Namadi Sambo, had any political enemies to fight, adding “we can be criticised based on what is going on in the political circle but it has nothing to do with the way we relate with people be it our political opponents or anybody.”
Governor Jonah Jang who extolled the virtues of the President described the rally as a mere formality, saying the President might even get more votes than him in the state in the coming election.
Also speaking, former PDP National Chairman, Chief Solomon Lar, urged the president to assist in solving the problems facing the state which he believed he had the capacity to do.
He added that Jonathan’s style would deepen democracy in the country urging Nigeria to be grateful to the PDP for overseeing over 12 years of democratic rule in the country which is the longest so far.
