INEC registers more males than females In Edo
Asaba — THE Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Delta State, Dr. Gabriel Ada, has accused some politicians for allegedly colluding with some unscrupulous INEC officials to facilitate multiple registration during the voter’s registration exercise in the state.
Meanwhile more males were registered during the just concluded voters registration exercise in Edo State, according to figures obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Benin City.
Dr. Gabriel Ada, therefore, vowed to fish out all the perpetrators to face the wrath of the law, while noting that the exercise was, however, commendable as 1.9 million persons were registered in the state, excluding the figure from the three Warri local government areas, where there was an extension.
In a statement, INEC Delta REC said, “the Commission has noticed from the just concluded voters registration exercise, the deliberate act of multiple registration and registration of minors ostensibly facilitated by some politicians in collusion with some unscrupulous INEC officials.
“The perpetrators of these electoral offences and their cohorts are already being fished out through the Automated Finger Identification System, AFIS, and would soon face the wrath of the law.
“The Commission in Delta State is also not unaware of the mischief being hatched by some misguided, insatiable and unpatriotic individuals to launch a campaign of calumny to portray the Commission in bad light in order to create disaffection between her and the unsuspecting and uninformed law abiding members of the public,” he added.
“INEC stands for justice and fair play in all its ramifications. As an unbiased umpire, the Commission remains resolute in conducting free, fair, and credible elections and expects that both the winners and losers in an election should be magnanimous in victory and gallant in defeat”, the statement added.
Ada had earlier told newsmen that twelve persons including two staff of the Commission including some of the NYSC members recruited for the exercise had so far been arrested for allegedly involved in double registration of voters.
