Former scribe of the Nigeria Football Association, Alhaji Sani Ahmed Toro has faulted Nigeria’s failed bid  to replace Dr Amos Adamu with Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima in the FIFA executive committee in the recently held elections of the continental football ruling body in Sudan last week.

“Galadima shouldn’t have contested the FIFA seat through elections,” Toro said, explaining that what Nigeria should have done was to press CAF to invoke Article 22, sub section 12 of CAF Statute and ask for somebody to act on behalf of suspended Dr Amos Adamu as he was not expelled.

Article 22(12) states that in event that an elected member of the executive committee cannot finish his tenure due to ill-health, suspension of for reasons other than expulsion, CAF can replace the member by appointment and not by elections until the expiration of the tenure of the affected member.

“By implication, Dr Adamu’s seat is still not vacant. He is on suspension but that does not mean he has lost his seat. By Article 22(12), he could still go back and complete his tenure if he succeeds in his appeal.

It could be recalled that before the 33rd ordinary General Assembly in  Khartoum, Sudan last week., CAF had told Nigeria that Dr. Amos Adamu’s seat in the FIFA executive committee was not vacant.

However, the former NFA secretary general said his advice to THE National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation is to continue to apply pressure on CAF to apply the necessary statutory provisions to ensure Nigeria got a replacement for Adamu because of the country’s contributions to the development of the game in the continent and the world in general.
