Ericsson unveils new strategy to connect Africa

In furtherance of its effort and advancing its vision for a new Africa in technology application, world leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators, Ericsson has unveiled the latest strategy that will enable her start consulting with key stakeholders across the continent to engineer a vision for A Networked Africa.

The strategy when fully come into operation will see Ericsson sub-Saharan Africa mobilizing the African community at various levels and in a number of sectors to start the convention around what A Networked Africa means.

Unveiling the company latest strategy at Civic centre, Victoria Island Lagos, the company regional head, Lars Linden said “Ericsson sees a future in which telecommunications forms the basis of a 21st century information-based infrastructure.

The vision of A Networked Africa will highlight the role that technology can play in creating a more sustainable planet, planet, transforming industries and empowering the African people.”

Head of marketing, Ericsson sub-Saharan Africa, Shiletsi Makhofane  who gave an insight into how communications and connectivity will fundamentally impact and change the way African society functions stressed  the growth opportunities and positive impact of the new product on the industry. He also revealed the company’s vision of 50 billion mobile connections by 2020.

This, according to him will encourage the industry achieve additional growth opportunities in Africa and start the transformation that will drive beneficial changes not just in society ut in businesses and individuals.

“While telecommunications started off focusing on connecting places, it has evolved to connecting people and now Ericsson has its sights on a future that is fully integrated and networked where everything that can benefit from a connection will be connected.

In A Networked Africa, people would have greater control over their personal ecosystems; one would be able to plan the trip home based on real-time traffic information, manage utility bills remtely and interact with everyday devices remotely. The possibilities are endless. one could even purchase power for a country home and remotely control home electronics,” said Makhofane.

The Ericsson head of Marketing who described the new initiative as a product of technology leadership, extensive research and development said that the company is determined to play a key role in pioneering the evolving technological evolution going on in the world, using innovation to empower people, businesses and the society in general.
