THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has disclosed that the party would boycott today’s House of Assembly re-run election in Akoko Edo Constituency 11, of the state.

The state Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih who disclosed this in Benin City  yesterday, argued that the Court specifically directed INEC to use the 2011 voters register which he said was not available for now.

It was learnt that the party felt participating in the election would not yield any positive result since the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state had earlier pummeled them in two re-run elections in the state.

It was learnt that the party would also challenge the ruling of the Federal High Court in Benin which ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should allow anybody with evidence that he or she has registered in the recently concluded voters’ registration.

Orbih explained that the court directed  INEC to use the 2011 voters register knowing that it was not available is an indirect way of asking INEC not to conduct the rerun election and “PDP is not like the Action Congress of Nigeria control Government of Edo State that flout court orders with impunity.

“Our party believes so much in the rule of law and we will continue to adhere strictly to it which is why we will not take part in Saturday’s election” he stated.It means that the ACN would have a field day as they file out for the election which is expected to further boost the number of ACN lawmakers in the House.
