Court jails 2 Persons for receiving stolen goods

One Audu Musa of Mararaba and Samaila Isiaka of Dokwa village, Abuja, were recently jailed two months respectively by an Abuja magistrate court for being in possession of stolen goods.

The convicts, were accused of buying about five drums of diesel allegedly stolen from the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, building in Abuja. The police arraigned the accused persons for dishonestly receiving stolen property, an offence contrary to section 317 of the penal code law.

They all pleaded guilty to the charge brought against them by the police. Magistrate Binta Mohammed after a summary trial convicted and sentenced the accused persons to two months imprisonment with an option of fine of N5,000.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Corp Emmanuel Adikwu told the court that the accused persons were found in possession of 1,075 litres of diesel stole from CAC building Abuja. According to him, they confessed buying the stolen diesel from one Hassan Mohammed and his group for N8,000 during police investigation.

The charge preferred against them read, “that one Hassan Mohammed and four others stole 43 x 25 litres of diesel and sold it to you Audu Musa ‘m’ of mararaba and Samaila Isiaka ‘m’ of Dokwa village, Abuja, which you dishonestly received the stole diesel in a J5 bus with registration number XN 471 APP.
