Ado-Ekiti,- An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate on Tuesday granted bail to a carpenter, Odunayo Abiodun, in the sum of N100,000 for allegedly stealing the sum of N15,000.
Reports have it that Abiodun, 36, was accused of stealing the said amount, a Nokia phone valued at N9,000 and a T-shirt worth N1,500 from one Mr Ajibade Sola at Inisa Street, Ado-Ekiti, during a disagreement.
Abiodun, who faced a two-count charge of assult and stealing, was also accused of assaulting the victim with a broken bottle and inflicting a deep cut in his right wrist.
The prosecuting police seargeant, Mr Caleb Leramo, told the court that the accused on Jan. 26, around 9 p.m. at Inisa Street, Ado Ekiti, assaulted the victim by using a broken bottle to cut his right hand.
Leramo disclosed that the accused also stole the sum N15,000, a Nokia phone valued at N9,000 and a shirt valued at N1,500.
“By doing so, the accused committed an offence that is punishable under the criminal code, laws of Ondo State as applicable to Ekiti,” the prosecutor said.
The accused, who was not represented by a counsel, pleaded not guilty.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.A. Aina, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in the like sum, that must be resident in Ado-Ekiti.
The case was adjourned still Feb. 8 for further hearing. (NAN)
