The Jonathan Project has tasked delegates to the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to look beyond today’s vote towards a progressive movement that would provide support for the president’s vision of lifting the country from economic and social malaise.
Presenting a document, “150 reasons 150 million Nigerians should support Jonathan” in Lagos, yesterday, the group summarized that a Jonathan presidency would build on and actualise the sound focus earlier encapsulated by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
The group’s National Coordinator, George Kerley, flanked by the leader of the Northern zone of the group, Mohammed Danjuma, and Strategy Coordinator, Robinson Sibe, enumerated some of the reasons for the group’s support for Jonathan.
He said: “Never have our politics and polity been so tested and tried. Never before has the state of our psyche been so heavily challenged. Never before has the strength of our unity been so questioned. Most of all, never before has the anti-progressive and power-addicted forces that have for decades held our nation hostage been so fiercely exposed.
“The emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan has expanded the horizon of hope for tens of millions of Nigerians even though it jolted and sent shock waves down the spines of an age-old power bloc who have for so long come to believe that it was their birth right to choose for Nigerians those who should rule Nigeria.”
