Police task monarchs on crime prevention

ANAMBRA State Police Command, Thursday, urged traditional rulers to work with the Police Assistance Committee, PAC, and support the police in its bid to curb crime in the state.

Speaking at a grassroots seminar/workshop organised by the committee in Awka, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Emeka Chukwuemeka, said community policing was a workable method that should be adopted to confront the menace of crime.

The deputy commissioner of police in the state, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover, urged the state government to give necessary logistics and material support to the PAC in its bid to assist the police in their operations.

Oshodi-Glover, who decried the menace of kidnapping and robbery in the South East zone, noted that the state government had the social responsibility of guaranteeing adequate security to the citizens.

Director-General of the Police Assistance Committee, Dr. Martins Oni, said the organisation will continue to assist the police by mobilising its members through seminars and workshops throughout the country.

He said the PAC had been installing computers with internet facilities at various police formations in the country to enable the force receive information on-line.
