Police nab 36 suspects for murder, robbery in Ebonyi

Ebonyi State Police Command has so far arrested 36 persons suspected to be involved in murder, armed robbery, and other crimes that had threatened the peace and stability of the state.

Briefing newsmen on some of the achievements so far recorded by the Command between  December 16, 2010 and January 3 2011, yesterday, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, Diipo Ayeni, noted that 24 persons were arrested and later charged to court for attempting to kill one Mr. Ibiam Augustine and others at Ekoli Edda, Afikpo South local government area of the state.

He added that members of an illegal society called Association of Igbo Youths Initiatives Movement, AIYIM, with the intent to carry out an unlawful purpose of causing fears to the people of Ngodo Village in Afikpo North local government area of the state and disrupt PDP primaries election, were equally apprehended.

He listed items recovered from the miscreants as: various types of charms, one wrap of Indian hemp, bottles of St. Remy hot drinks;89,225 Biafran currency and one L-300 bus with number plate XE 958 ABA.

According to CP Ayeni: “the Police at Afikpo North Local Government Area on receiving the information moved into action and 12 persons were arrested and on searching them items were recovered.

“Youths of Ezeka and Ohaechara communities in Amasari Afikpo North LGA due to some misunderstanding during Ezeka  “Mbe” traditional festival, engaged themselves in a fracas leading to arson and destruction of property whose value is yet to be estimated. However, ten persons among this disorderly group were arrested and later charged to court.” he added.

Ayeni, who enjoined individuals in the state to be more vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station for urgent action, pointed out that one Mike Okoro who was kidnapped five days ago at Afikpo south local government area of the state had been released.
