NSE market capitalisation closes 2010 on upward movement

Investors on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) last week, rally their investment as the value of listed equities’ represented by the market  capitalisation appreciated by N26.14 billion.

Specifically, the capitalisation rose by 0.33 per cent to close at N7.913 trillion from N7.912 trillion at which it opened the week.

Another key performance indices the All share index appreciated by 0.33 per cent or 81.36 bases points to close at 24,770.52 points from 24,765.60 points at which it opened .

Lafarge WAPCO Cement Nigeria Plc and Unilever Nigeria Plc led 37 other stocks on the gainers’ table with a gain of N1.70 to close at N40.70 per share and N26.70 per share and Presco Plc garnered N0.92 to close at N6.85 per share.

Other share price gainers’ include: Dangote Flour Mills Plc N0.80, Okomu Oil Palm Plc N0.70,

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc N0.53, UACN Property Development Company Plc N0.49, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc N0.49, IHS Plc N0.36, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc N0.36, among others.

On the other hand, Nigeria Bottling Company Plc led 33 other stocks on the losers table  dropping by N2.23 to close at N36.07 per share, Nestle Nigeria Plc followed with a loss of N1.95 to close at N368.55 per share and Cadbury Nigeria Plc dipped by N1.18 to close at N25.62 per share.

Other share price losers include: Glaxo Smithkline Consumer Nigeria Plc N0.51, John Holt Plc  N0.46, Berger Paints Nigeria Plc N0.44, Ekocorp Plc N0.27, RT Briscoe Nigeria Plc N0.25, First City Monument Bank Plc N0.20, Academy Press Plc N0.19, among others.

A turnover of 684.14 million shares valued at N4.94 billion was recorded in 12,265 deals, however trading declined by 66.15 per cent in the week under review, in contrast to the previous week’s turnover of 2.02 billion shares valued at N12.43billion exchanged last in 24,713 deals.

The Banking sub-sector was the most active on the sectorial analysis accounting for 49.52 per cent of the market turnover with 338.81 million shares valued at N2.98 billion in 6,803 deals.  Zenith Bank Plc recorded highest patronage in the sub-sector trading 51.09 million shares valued at N774.47 million in 1,123 deals, First Bank of Nigeria Plc followed with the exchange of 41.29 million shares valued at N566.74 MILLION IN 1,509 deals and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc recorded 34.19 million shares valued at N609.14 million in 999 deals.

The Insurance sub-sector trailed on the sectorial analysis accounting for 20.04 per cent of the market turnover with 137.12 million shares valued at N92.59 million in 712 deals.

Continental Reinsurance Plc was the most sought after in the sub-sector trading 23.17 million shares valued at N23.15 million in 49 deals and Regency Alliance Insurance Company Plc followed with the exchange of N20.02 million shares valued at N10.01 million in seven deals and Lasaco Assurance Plc recorded 12.08 million shares valued at N6.04 million in 20 deals.
