THREE police men attached to vehicles conveying Rivers State pilgrims to the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa were gunned down, yesterday, by some heavily armed men.
Vanguard gathered that none of the pilgrims lost their lives in the incident. Confirming the sad development the state Police Public Relations Officer, Dr Rita Inoma Abbey, said only one of the pilgrims’ sustained injuries.
Abbey said: “They killed three policemen on the escort of the pilgrims. None of the pilgrims died, only one of them sustained minor scratches.”
The pilgrims were heading to the Port Harcourt International Airport to catch a flight to Israel for the pilgrimage exercise.
There were speculations that the armed men were robbers. The police said it would not leave any stone unturned as its men were already on the trail behind the sad incident.
