Group wants fresh PDP congress in Sapele

Sapele Renaissance has called on the Delta State and National Executive Council of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), to announce a new date for another ad hoc party delegate congress, alleging that the materials for the congress were hijacked by one of the aspirants.

The group, led by Mr. John Omokimow, in a protest letter to the State Chairman of the party, Mr. Peter Nwaoboshi, and copied to the Chairman, Ad hoc Delegate Congress Committee, Delta Central, PDP Sapele Local Government Area and the National Chairman of PDP and made available to newsmen in Warri, said there was no delegate congress election in Sapele, as alleged to have been held by some people on December 28, 2010.

The letter reads in part: “In the early hours of Tuesday, December 28, 2010, PDP members in the 11 wards came out en-masse for the exercise where they waited till 7.50 p.m. without seeing the returning officer, Mr. Prince Omonigho, with the needed materials for the exercise.”

While expressing confidence in the ability of the leadership of the party to ensure justice, it maintained that if justice was not done they would be forced to ask their candidates and other aspirants, who were short-changed to leave PDP and work with the opposition.
