AS the voters registration exercise enters its second day in the Warri Federal constituency of Delta State, the Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Pastor Power Aginighan, has supported the calls for the extension of the ongoing nationwide registration of eligible voters beyond the two weeks in view of the current challenges being faced by eligible voters in the country.
Pastor Aginighan called for an extension, saying that will afford all qualified Nigerians the opportunity to perform their civic responsibility.
The NDDC Finance Director made the appeal to INEC while addressing his kinsmen in Ogodobri and Ezebri communities in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, shortly after he registered in company with his wife, Amerikaere, at Ogodobri Ward, weekend.
He urged his kinsmen to come out enmasse for the exercise to enable them to join other Nigerians to elect credible leaders to pilot the affairs of the country in the 2011 general elections.
The NDDC boss who asked Nigerians to take advantage of the commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan’s to credible polls and the sincerity of INEC’s Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to a free and fair elections by taking active part in the electoral processe also joined the call for strigent punishment for electoral fraudsters noting that the vision 202020 could only be realised if Nigerians were allowed to freely elect their leaders at all levels of government.
He added, “I call on every Nigerian of voting age to turn out en masse and register as a voter for the 2011 general elections. With President Goodluck Jonathan, who has pledged that under his watch as President that the vote of every Nigerian will count which he has so far demonstrated in timely release of required funds to the Independent National Electoral Commission and with the sense of mission so far demonstrated by Prof. Attahiru Jega_led commission, there is light at the end of the tunnel that Nigeria is on the path to being a truly democratic nation.
“I must say here that Nigeria’s vision 202020 will remain a day dream without free, free and credible elections. I support the call for very stiff punishment for all forms of electoral offences and I appeal to all Nigerian youths, our future leaders, not to mortgage their future by making themselves available as thugs to any dishonest politician.
“Considering the almost nationwide protests on the hiccups in the take_off of the exercise, I wish to join my voice to the call for the extension of the closing date for this very important exercise.”
