Dutse—THE committee setup for the establishment of the proposed Jigawa State University headed by Professor Munzali Jibrin has submitted its report to Governor Sule Lamido with recommendations that the state government should carry on its proposal for the establishment of the state university, saying N4bn is needed as take off grant.

Professor Munzali Jibrin also informed the governor that the Committee discovered that about 8,500 Jigawa students   qualify  for admission into university each year, but only 26 per cent of that number get admitted into federal universities.

He noted that despite the recent pronouncement by the federal government to establish a federal university in the state, there is strong need  to establish its own university, pleading that government should not drop the good intention to have its own university.

The professor then disclosed that N4billion naira was required as capital demand for the take off of the state university project, adding all necessary recommendations are contained in the report of the committee.

In his response, Governor Sule Lamido assured that the state would not relent on its decision of pursuing its own educational needs and aspirations  adding that the proposal for the establishment of a federal university in the state would not stop his government’s  plan.

Governor Lamido, who commended the committee members, assured them that the state government would  consider the  committee’s budget to see the possibility of accommodating the proposal.
