The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria has threatened to withdraw the Fellowship and Associateship certificates issued by the body to some members if the institute has good reasons to do so.The Institute recently awarded twelve Fellows and One Hundred and Fifty Eight Associates.
The CIIN president, Mr. Sunny Adeda said that Fellowship and Associateship certificates issued by the body remain the property of the Institute and could be withdrawn at any time, if such a person is found to be unworthy of holding out the qualification following derailment from the expectation of the Board of Fellows.
He described the new Fellows and Associates as custodians of the ethics and codes of conduct of insurance practice, charged them to weigh the greater burden of responsibility against their abiding interests, stating that the Fellowship and Associate ship awards call for greater integrity and this must remain the guiding principle at all times.
Adeda said,“Award of the Fellowship of CIIN, is a rigorous process and behoves all holders of the qualification to continually keep themselves worthy of holding out the qualification as an attestation to their professional calling”.
Conditions for award of the Institute Fellowship, according to CIIN’s Director General, Mr. Adegboyega Adepegba, include ten years of post Associateship impeccable experience, submission of a dissertation and appearance before the Fellowship Assessment Committee (FAC) as well as ratification by the Board of Fellows, chaired by Mr. Talabi A Braithwaite, the Doyen of Insurance.
The Institute has also released results of its October, 2010 Professional Examinations.
Mr. Adegboyega Adepegba, Director General of the institute stated that the Institute had registered about 2,000 candidates for the various levels of the examination and has now released the results following meeting of the Governing Council.
The DG, stated that the institute would paste all results at its national secretariat and dispatch all duly signed students’ results to individual students before posting them on the website.
Governing Council of the institute is continually resolved to protect the sanctity of the examinations, stating that any breach of the examination process, will lead to the withdrawal of any certificate or certificates issued as the Institute reserves the right to do so.
