ABIA State Deputy Governor, Chief Acho Nwakanma, has described as mere rumour insinuations that he had left ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for another party.
Nwakanma said emphatically that he was still in the PDP, stressing that the rumour was the handiwork of mischief makers and political misfits who were out to create confusion in the polity.
Nwakanma, in a statement issued by his press secretary, Mr. Chika Ojiegbe, said the aim of those behind the rumour was to create confusion in the polity and weaken the solid followership base of Governor Theodore Orji, as well as diminish his political profile.
According to the statement, “Chief Eric Acho Nwakanma has distinguished himself over the past two decades as a very ideologically principled, steadfast and consistent politician and one would wonder why any right thinking person would go about peddling wanton rumours with the intent to discredit this great son of Abia.
“The deputy governor has not nurtured any ambition to contest for any elective post whatsoever, neither has he indicated any interest which may be interpreted as a move to another party”.
It further explained that Nwakanma had no reason to contemplate leaving the PDP when he enjoyed a very unique and close relationship with Governor Orji who had given him free hand to function as the state’s number two citizen.
