The Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda was Tuesday official turbaned as the, ‘Mattawalen Bauchi, a traditional title that bestows on him the status of the ‘Chief Legal Officer’ to the Emir just as the former Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Yakubu Lame was turbaned as the ‘Santurakin Bauchi, Chief Informant to the Emir.
The Governor was turbaned by the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu in his palace witnessed by prominent Nigerians from across the country including the Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, and Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau as well as other traditional rulers.
Performing the ceremony, the Emir advised the new Mattawalen Bauchi to be just and fair to all in the discharge of his traditional role of Chief Legal Officer in the Emirate by ensuring that people got the deserved justice no matter who is involved because according to him no society can progress without justice and fairness.
The Emir further used the occasion to call on the people of the Emirate as well as the entire state to ensure that they participated in the forth coming voters registration exercise saying that with been registered people will not be able to vote candidates of their choices in the 2011 general elections just as he appealed to politicians to take things easy and abide by rules of the game.
The Emir further appealed for peaceful coexistence among the diverse people of the state saying that without relative peace nobody will be able to do anything not eve going out in search of daily bread pointing out that with tolerance things will be done to the benefit of all.
He also called on all sons and daughters of Bauchi to ensure that they came back home to contribute to the development of the area using their God given positions and influence in the society because according to him that is the only way the area can be developed as government alone cannot do it considering the many sectors that are demanding for attention.
Responding at the Palace, the new Mattawalen Bauchi, Isa Yuguda thanked the Emir and the entire people of the Bauchi for the honour saying that is will ginger him up to do more for the people of the state who reposed political trust in him by electing him as the Governor in 2007 adding that, “we will strive to do more for the good of the state.”
Isa Yuguda said that the honor was done to his entire family and generation yet unborn declaring that, “we will remain ever grateful to the Emir, Emirate Council Members as well as the entire people of Bauchi for this great honor, I will strive to live above board and be just and fair to all as is the responsibility of my office.”
