We can’t afford to lose Delta – Jonathan group

By Austin Ogwuda
THE campaign train of Sambo/Jonathan has stormed Asaba, promising that it would ensure  that the former governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, was returned to Government House during the re-run polls.

It also promised to clinch victory during the presidential elections.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the end of the campaign tour of the state, Director of Contact Mobilisation and Organization, Mr. Ahmed Gulak, said there was no way the party would sit by and watch another political party win Delta guber re-run.

“Let me tell you, Delta is not different from any other state of the federation. You will agree with me that PDP is the only national party in this country. All the parties have their challenges, including PDP, but you will always agree that PDP will always come out of it stronger. Polarization in political set up is normal, it’s about interest.

“In Delta State, we have had the misfortune of getting a judgment that said we have to go for a rerun election.  PDP has done it before. Delta is a PDP state and no party can make headway in this state; other parties exist in briefcase,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Oshimili Local Government Council  in Delta State, Mr. Ben Okonkwo, a staunch PDP member, said PDP remained a party to beat, expressing optimism that Uduaghan would win in the re-run, as its people were die-hard PDP members.

Declaring his intention to run for the Federal House of Representatives in 2011, Okonkwo said: “If elected into this position, I will represent my people effectively.”

I will champion certain specific infrastructural provisions into the federal constituency, I will champion the provision of federal roads, a federal university  and splitting  of this constituency because as at today I believe Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency is one of the biggest federal constituencies in the whole of this country.

It is a constituency that is made up of four big local governments; whereas we have some federal constituencies that are composed of only one local government”.
