Shell donates N38m community halls, others to Delta communities

AS a commitment to a mutually beneficial and long lasting relationship between Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, and her host communities, the  oil giant has donated two community halls, water bole and electricity projects to Ajudiabo and Samagidi communities in Delta State.

The projects according to Mr. Tony Attah, General Manager, Sustainable Development and Community Relation, SPDC, is part of the company’s social corporate responsibility, aimed at capacity building in the spirit of the Nigerian Content Policy of the government, adding this is why “we engaged a community to execute these projects.”

Represented by Edesiri Akpomudjere, Shell charged the communities to reject violence as a means towards conflict resolution because it does not yield sustainable result, stressing that the company believed that dialogue, consultation and trust were vital to sustain any meaningful and fruitful relationship.

While the Ajudaibo community in Warri South West Council got an ultra modern town hall built at a whopping N22m, Samagidi community in Ethiope East council got a town hall fully furnished, a mini_water scheme and electricity_hook up to the building running close to N16m.

SPDC appealed to the local government and communities to take ownership and ensure that the town hall is properly managed and maintained for the benefit of generations to come.

Representative of Ajudaibo and Samagidi communities, Mr. Monday Tenumah and Chief Emma Avworo commended SPDC for the gesture but requested that more social amenities be given to them as they have made peace and conducive working environment for the company’s operation their priority, even as they requested that their sons be employed in the main stream of the company.
