Abuja – An Abuja Magistrate court at Wuse zone 2, yesterday, sentenced a security man, Mohammed Shaibu, to three months imprisonment for stealing 20 cartons of tiles worth N100,000.
The 25-year-old accused was arraigned by the police on joint act and theft, contrary to section 79 and 287 of the penal code.
Shaibu confessed before the court to have committed the offence levelled against him by the police.
Magistrate Tony Chukwuemeka, after a summary trial, convicted and sentenced the accused person to three months imprisonment without an option of fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Corporal Emmanuel Adikwu, told the court that the accused person conspired with one Danlami, who is now at large, to steal 20 cartons of tiles from plot 447 Danube Street, Maitama, Abuja, where he was serving as security man.
“That you conspired with one Danlami, now at large to steal 20 cartons of tiles valued N100, 000 from plot 447 Danube street, Maitama, Abuja.
During police investigation, you confessed to have stolen the tiles and sold it to one Salisu Adamu”.
Similarly, Magistrate Hafsat Soso has sentenced a businessman, Salisu Adamu, 30, in two months imprisonment for receiving the stolen tiles, with an option of N5,000 as fine.
He was arrested by a police inspector, Balogun Rasaq, at Mpape junction, Abuja, with the stolen tiles loaded in a Volkswagen Golf with registration number XQ 342 ABC.
Adamu confessed before the court “to have bought the tiles from Mohammed Shaibu and Danlami (now at large) at the rate of ten thousand naira”.
The court also ordered that the 20 cartons of tiles be released to the rightful owner.
