PRESIDENTIAL aspirant of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has said his party had an elaborate plan to construct mini-power stations across the country, targeting abundant coal deposits in Enugu, Benue, Kogi and other parts of the country.
This was contained in a message delivered to the people of Enugu State through Enugu State’s Coordinator, Buhari Campaign Organisation, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, during the state congress of the party held at the weekend.
He promised to industrialize Nigeria by addressing the protracted power problems through the construction of coal-fired power station and cement factory in Enugu State.
The former Military Head of State said his government would also explore the huge deposits of cement in many parts of the country, including Enugu, Ebonyi, Gombe, Rivers and Cross River States.
On how Buhari intended to fund the industries, Okechukwu said the presidential aspirant believed that over $15 billion that accrued annually to the Federation Account from Oil Receipts, Liquefied National Gas, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Tax Revenue and Customs Duty, if prudently utilized, would be enough to jump start the industries.
Okechukwu said that Buhari is committed to a transparent leadership, which will prudently utilize the nation’s resources to construct industries and encourage influx of foreign direct investment.
“Buhari is of the fervent view that when the monumental corruption which is the metaphor of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led government is halted, government funding will succeed and Foreign Direct Investment will readily flow-in. Nobody wants to entrust his funds in the hands of thieves,” he said.
The campaign coordinator told the state congress that “Buhari will sanitize the system, return Nigeria to a disciplined society, where proper rule of law and faith in Nigeria will be renewed.”
Buhari therefore called on the hard working Easterners to join the Westerners and the Northerners in the patriotic exodus out of the PDP, saying “we cannot reward PDP for pervasive corruption, for we cannot reward PDP for ineptitude, for we cannot reward PDP for failed promises and we cannot reward PDP for insecurity.”
On what Buhari has for Ndigbo, Okechukwu said, “outside industrialization, Buhari is of the candid opinion that Ndigbo like most progressive democrats nationwide would want a Nigeria where a level playing field is enthroned and patronage system erased.”
He however called on every eligible Nigerian to endeavour to register as a voter, vote and guide their votes; saying “without your vote misrule and kleptomania will triumph.”
