PEOPLES Progressive Party, PPP, has condemned Christmas eve’s bomb blasts in Jos, which reportedly claimed several lives. Calling on the Federal Government to bring those behind the blasts to book, national leader of the party, Mr Solomon Edebiri, who spoke in Port Harcourt, described the blasts as an act of terrorism.
He warned that with elections around the corner, security operatives have to improve on intelligence gathering to effectively nip sinister moves of such in the bud. He said he was so touched by the huge loss of lives just as he appealed to Nigerians involved in such sinister act to have a rethink as culture of violence should be discouraged in the country
Edebiri enjoined religious leaders in the country to caution their members against violence. According to him, they have a major role to play at this critical time of the nation’s history.
He reminded those behind the blast that violent cultures had never done any area any good. He said Nigerians should take steps to promote the peaceful atmosphere we have been enjoying in the country.
“Those behind the blasts should go back to history and they would see that violence has never done any society any good,” he said.
“Let us not destroy the peace in our country no matter the bitterness. Religious leaders, government and every other group in the country should see it as a task to protect the peace in our country”, he pleaded.
Mr Edebiri also lamented the sudden passage of the wife of the Edo state governor, Mrs Clara Oshomole, noting that it was a big blow. While lauding her sterling qualities he prayed the almighty God to grant her soul eternal rest, adding that God should also give those she left behind the strength to bear the loss.
