Jos—Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Plateau State, might go into the coming elections polarised unless the national leadership of the party succeeds in resolving the two factions ahead of the poll.
Aspirants to various elective offices from the group referred to as “PDP2” have resolved not to participate in any screening organised by the state officials of the party.
It was learnt, weekend, that members of the group opposed to Governor Jonah Jang are not happy that the state executive of the party which they perceive as loyal to the governor is still left intact by the national leadership of the party.
The reported automatic ticket promised governors and members of the National Assembly is also said not to have gone down well with many members especially those eyeing those seats. Some of them are already contemplating contesting on the platform of other parties.
A few of them who spoke in confidence wondered why the ambitions of hundreds would be sacrificed allegedly for selfish pursuits.
They predicted that the ill-feeling among members, if not assuaged before the election might prove costly for the party in next year’s election.
It was learnt that aspirants into various offices in “PDP 2” met on Saturday and resolved not to honour an invitation by the state executive of the party to appear for screening tomorrow, alleging that the action and utterances of state officials did not guarantee their impartiality.
