Osun PDP woos aggrieved members

Osogbo—AHEAD of 2011 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state have begun a reconciliatory move to woo all aggrieved members  of the party from defecting  to the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

Following Governor Rauf Aregbesola victory at the Court of Appeal in Ibadan some few days ago, prominent members of the PDP including the Chief of Staff to former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Elder Peter Babalola, members of the state  and National Assembly have moved enmass to the ruling party in the state.

Prominent members of the PDP from all the three senatorial districts in the state were at the weekend in Ode_Omu, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo where a meeting  was held  with a view to putting an end to further losing members to other parties.

One of the elder caucus of PDP who was part of the meeting told our correspondent in Osogbo that a reconciliation committee has also been set up to look into the grievances of the aggrieved members.

Part of the  job of the committee also include proffering solution to the crisis rocking the party in the state at all levels.

At a parley held at the country home of the Minister of Youths Development, Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi in Ode_Omu at the weekend,  the source added that the party agreed to find a lasting solution to the internal crises within the party and restructure the PDP in the state ahead of the 2011 general elections.

At the meeting which was attended by leaders of the party from all the three senatorial districts in the state including members of the National Assembly from the state and all the Gubernatorial aspirants of the party, the party resolved to investigate the activities of the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ademola Razaq since his assumption of office the source affirmed.

Some of the grievances of the aggrieved members include collection of   about N5 million from each of the 18 governorship aspirants of the party  by the Alhaji Ademola  Rasak led state executive before the Court of Appeal judgment and given preference to the governorship ambition of Senator Iyiola Omisore.

It was also gathered that the  meeting  directed the party chairman, Alhaji Razaq to refund all  the money collected from all the aspirants vying for various political offices which runs to the tune of  N293 million.

It  was further learnt that the Leaders of the party across the 30 Local Government Areas in the state have agreed to move round all the wards in the state to rebuild the PDP to ensure that the party wins in future elections in the state.

Present at the meeting include former governor Oyinlola, former Minister of Transport and Aviation, Cheif Ebenezer Babatope, former National Vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, Former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Senator Yinka Omilani, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Foluke Etteh and chief Yemi Farounbi.

Others at the meeting were Chiefs Olufemi Omotara, Abiola Ogundokun, Olayiwola Ogunrinade, Abiola Morakinyo, former Secretary to the state Government Alhaji Fatai Akinbade and Hon Kayode Idowu  and all the former Gubernatorial Aspirant on the platform of PDP in the state among others.
