Osaze shines with goals

By Ben Efe

Osaze Peter Odemwingie scored twice in West Brom’s 3-1 home win against Newcastle United in Sunday’s English premier league match. And for Eagles’ coach Samson Siasia, it was a welcome relief to see one of his players doing well in top flight football.

Siasia, like every other Nigerian has been worried about the unex-citing diary of Nigerian top players in the European leagues. However, so far Osaze has been a refreshing difference. It was seen in the quality of goals he scored against Newcastle yesterday.

Osaze did a solo run after picking up a lose ball at the middle, he held off Sol Campbell and Ryan Taylor in the box, before sliding the ball past Newcastle keeper Tim Krul. His second came, when he ran wide from a long ball, he beat the offside trap set by the Newcastle centre backs. He rounded Krul and jabbed the ball home, to score his sixth goal from 13 appearances for West Brom.

Brom midfielder Somen Tchoyi had opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when he curled in a superb effort from just inside the 18_yard area.

In stoppage time, substitute Peter Lovenkrands scored the consolation for Newcastle, when he lashed in the loose ball after Carson had saved Andy Carroll’s initial strike. Osaze said after he helped Westbrom secure back_to_back wins that put the modest club in the sixth place on the table.
