Ogbeha heads PDP screening appeal panel

ABUJA—THE leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, approved the appointment of Senator Tunde Ogbeha as the Chairman of the party’s gubernatorial Screening Appeal Committee.

According to the PDP, the committee will answer all appeals emanating from the states December 26, 2010, with venue at the party’s Presidential Campaign Office, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

Meanwhile, members of the National Working Committee, NWC held close door meetings with governors of Enugu and Plateau States, Sullivan Chime and David Jonah Jang respectively.

Outcome of the meeting was not known to journalists as both governors refused to talk to the media, but the visits may not be unconnected with the just concluded screening exercise carried out by the party in the states, just as there were problems in some of the states.

The party’s leadership is still at a cross road on the composition of the Presidential Screening Committee that will look at the credentials of the presidential aspirants, President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Mrs Sarah Jubril.

As at press time, members of the National Working Committee, NWC, were still locked up in the office of the National Chairman, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, brainstorming on very salient issues relating to the party, especially who becomes the Chairman of the Presidential Screening Committee.

The leadership of the party is careful about the entire process as a source said it was not ready to make mistakes that will affect the party.

Other members of the Ogbeha-led committee are  Professor Julius Ihonvbhere and the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief Edet Nkpubre, representing the South-South geo-political zone of the country, while Rev. Hyde Onuaguluchi and the National Vice Chairman South-East Barrister Olisa Metuh, are representing the South-East.

For the South West are Mrs. Aduke Maina and the National Vice Chairman South West, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo while former Kwara State governor, Shaaba Lafiagi and the National Vice Chairman, North Central, Alhaji Yusuf Ayitogo stand in for the North Central.

Other members are Ambassador Adamu Aliyu and the National Vice Chairman, North East,  NE Sen. Paul Wampana for the North East while Hon.Bala Kaoje and the National Vice Chairman, North West, NW, Dr. Danladi Sankara are representing the North West.

It would be recalled that the Party had last week set up screening committees that and the appeal Committee will continue from where the screening Committees stopped.
