THE second season of the Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank)- Lagos State Principals Cup Football championship for secondary schools in the state which kicks off on Sunday promises to live up to its standard as the sponsors have voted the sum of N5 Million to package this year’s edition.
The championship kicks off in all the six geo-political zones of the state with the zonal eliminations followed by the district finals before the main draws on January 18, 2011.
The state preliminaries have been slated to take place between 20 and 26 of January, 2011 while the semi finals hold between February 8 and 9. Briefing the media Monday at the state Education Resource Centre, Ojodu , Ikeja, the Deputy Governor of the state, Princess Sarah Bisi Sosan who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Lagos State, Mrs Omolara Erogbogbo recalled with joy the success recorded in the last edition that had a very rich history behind it.
Princess Sosan noted that the state government revived the competition in 2006 because of its belief in the potency of sports as a co-curricular activity that offers a way to strike balance in the development of the youth. She said, “Sports have become big business and the current administration in the state has revived sports as an integral part of our curricula activity to enable our children have sound minds in sound bodies.
