After nearly fourteen years of waiting, the first manufacturing firm in Bayelsa State Thursday came on stream with the production of PVC pipes.
Christened ‘Bayelsa Plastic Industry’ the factory was commissioned during President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to the state last October.
State Deputy Governor, Chief Werinipre Seibarugu, who witnessed the pipes role off the line, said Bayelsa State would soon become the hub of plastic production in the region.
The deputy governor called on residents of the state to take advantage of the factory’s products, particularly the PVC pipes and the polyethylene bags which will be durable, cheaper and of better quality than those produced outside the state.
Meantime, the Bayelsa State Plastic Industry said it would begin recruitment of technical personnel to take care of its production.
BSPI Chairman, Mr. Mike Epengule, said the 145 technical personnel would mark the beginning of full scale production of the firm at installed capacity.
BSPI will produce 70,000 PVC pipes.
