Enugu State office of INEC says it has taken delivery of 1,000 Direct Data Capture, DDC, machines for the voter registration exercise starting January 15.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Mr Josiah Uwazuruonye, said Wednesday in Enugu that the commission was expecting an additional 1,958 machines from the contractors.
“Last Monday, we took delivery of 1,000 DDC machines from Zinox. We are expecting the balance from other contractors,’’ he told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.
The REC said that the machines had been inspected to ensure that all the components were complete.
“I personally supervised the offloading of the machines alongside other senior staff to ensure that all the 13 components in each machines are complete,’’ he said.
Uwazuronye also said that adequate security had been put in place to ensure safety of the machines.
He said that with the delivery of the machines, the commission would commence training of some officers of the commission from grade level seven and above.
The REC said that the officers would in turn train the ad hoc staff comprising NYSC members and other selected groups.
He urged political parties and the electorate to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and shun violence during the exercise.
