A new state Executive Committee of the Labour Party, LP, in Edo State was elected, Sunday, with majority of the former executive members being re-elected.
Dr John Ogbeide was re-elected as the state chairman of the party, while Mr Sunny Aguebor was elected as Deputy Chairman (South).
According to a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Adams Aliu, the chairman lauded the delegates and entire members of the party for their consistency and loyalty amidst “provocation by a few members of the party, who had futilely sought court injunction to stop the congresses without exhausting the internal machinery of crisis resolution panacea in the Labour Party constitution.”
He further urged members to work hard in the forthcoming general elections so as to ensure victory for the party in the three senatorial districts.
The congress was observed by the national chairman of the party, Mr Dan Nwanyanwu and other national leaders of the party.
It will be recalled, however, that a faction of the party led by its Deputy Chairman (Central), Mr Smart Binitie and Sam Omede, had earlier suspended the chairman for alleged refusal to call congresses and “dictatorial tendencies in the affairs of the party.”
