Akpeki backs Ag Gov on Uduaghan’s re-election

By Emma Amaize
ASABA—DELTA State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, weekend, supported  the position of the Acting Governor of the state, Prince Sam Obi, that he would ensure the return of the former Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan in the re-run poll, saying Obi was right.

He added that  those maligning him were either being mischievous or ignorant of party politics.

Akpeki who spoke exclusively to Vanguard,  said, “it is a blatant lie to say that the Acting Governor said he would stop funding of mega projects in the state.

At no time or any forum did Prince  Obi say, that he was not going to put money into the mega projects in the state. It was a mischievous attempt by opponents to blackmail him and the former administration. Prince Obi has denied that and we believed him.”

“The opposition does not understand party politics. If it is true that they are politicians, and they are members of the party, they would know how party politics is run. Prince  Obi did not become acting Governor on his own, he contested election into the House of Assembly on the platform of a political party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“So, PDP gave birth first to Sam Obi, as a member of the House of Assembly and gave birth to him, as the Speaker, and God in His own infinite mercy made it possible for him to become acting Governor through the instrumentality of the constitution, that when the Governor and Deputy Governor are not there, automatically, the number three citizen, who is the Speaker becomes the Governor,” he said.

“So he became the acting governor because he was speaker of the House of Assembly and it is the PDP that form the largest party in the House of Assembly and it is the PDP that gave birth   to the speaker, and so, it is the speaker of that party that became acting governor, do you now expect the governor that was brought into power on the platform of the political party to leave the programmes of his political party.

“If he is not going to leave the programe of his political party, it, therefore means, that he must prosecute to the end anything affecting his political party. Having said this, do they expect Obi, who knows that the former governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is on vacation  to sit there and not to attend party meetings, where the decision to return Dr. Uduaghan had been taken”, he said.

Chief Akpeki said the acting governor acted like a true and dedicated party when he said he would work for the return of Dr. Uduaghan, and there was nothing the opposition would do to change his position.
