Akabogu faces manslaughter charges

Ocean Boys defender Okey   Akabogu is in police custody over charges of manslaughter following the horrendous car crash which claimed the lives of two pedestrians in Yenagoa in the early hours of Monday.
Akabogu was driving his Mercedes vee-boot car along the streets of Yenagoa around 1am on Monday when the unfortunate incident occurred.

His teammate, third choice goal keeper, Austino Egbe was also in the car at the time of the incident. Ebge came off worse in the crash as he slipped out of consciousness and subsequently went into a coma.

Having spent some time at the hospital for observations, law enforcement agents in Yenagoa felt the player (Akabogu) was now physically strong enough to be transferred to the Ekeki police headquarters in Yenagoa for questioning.

Efforts by SuperSport.com to speak to the officer in charge of the case proved futile as he was said to be unavailable for comments.

We were however informed that the family members of the deceased may be poised to press for manslaughter charges against Akabogu.

As at the time of filing this report, third choice keeper, Egbe, had regained consciousness after spending seven hours in a comatose state. He is however, still in a very serious condition as he is said to be in excruciating pains following injuries he sustained in the crash.

These are unhappy times for Ocean Boys who are still struggling to come to terms with the sudden death of defender Emma Ogoli. The former Bayelsa United stalwart slumped and died in the 39th minute of the club’s NPL game against Niger Tornadoes at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa on Sunday.

Ocean boys, with 5 points from 6 games are three places off the bottom of the NPL table.
