Soundcity hires Jan Malan for awards

By Yemisi Suleiman
The award pre-show at this year’s Soundcity Music Video Awards on November 20 is reportedly planned to be a full_on fashion show production quite unlike anything domestic audiences have ever seen before.

The Soundcity production team, led by Namibia_born internationally acclaimed show director/choreographer South African Jan Malan Umzingeli (behind such visual feasts as ‘Face of Africa’ and the “Models walking on water” fashion show for Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model) are enhancing the basic red carpet format by putting together a exclusive live couture runway tease at the poolside of  Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island from 6:00pm.

The show will be featuring stunning models donning exclusive collections from the continent’s boldest, most accomplished international designers and labels. Jan Malan has commissioned up to 10 top designers from across Africa (including South Africans David Tlale and Dax Martin, with a number of Nigerian labels MOMO, Lanre da Silva, Mai Atafo Inpired, Tiffany Amber, and Zizi Cardow) to create their signature looks and concoct what they promise would be creative ‘eye candy’ for specially invited guests before the awards proper, as a sort of sumptuous style buffet for the evening.

Jan Malan would also be producing and directing the main event, which, along with the red carpet extravaganza, will be broadcast live on DSTV to a wide African audience.
