Punishment on Adamu not enough, Nnaji

By Fidelis Ebu, Abuja

Former Enugu State sports commissioner, Barrister Ray Nnaji declared yesterday that Amos Adamu’s indictment by the FIFA ethics committee for allegedly trying to sell his vote in the world cup bid selection was a slap on Africa.Nnaji argued that FIFA was soft on the charges and it acted because the world soccer body wanted to clear its name.

Adamu was given a three-year suspension from all football activities. He is also to pay a 10,000 swiss franc (about N1.5m) fine.

“The three_year ban was not in tandem with the charges. Shying away from the truth is not going to help us. “Now that he wants to appeal, perhaps the Appeal Committee would give him appropriate punishment”, Barrister Nnaji said.
