Governor Adams Oshiomhole has congratulated the new Head of Service of the Federation, Professor Oladapo Afolabi on his appointment to the exalted position as the number one civil servant in the country, saying the appointment is “well-merited”.
In a letter, the Governor said: “I have great pleasure in congratulating you on your appointment as the Head of Service of the Federation (HOSF). Your appointment by Mr. President is certainly well-merited given your vast records in various facets of the public service.
“The challenges of re-energizing the Federal Civil Service are enormous. At this critical period, the Service needs a new performance template, improved human resource management procedures and a leadership that can inspire its alignment to wider development objectives. I am convinced that you have what it takes to give quality leadership to the Service.
“With your performance as Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministries of Labour, Agriculture and lately, Education, you established a solid reputation for diligence, thoroughness and innovation. In the interactions I have had with you both as President of the Nigeria Labour Congress and as Governor of Edo State, I have come to appreciate the high premium you place on a knowledge-based approach to institution-building and management.
“These approach, among your other sterling leadership qualities, are necessary to sustain and deepen the ongoing efforts to re-energize the Federal Civil Service.
“I wish you a successful tenure in office and assure you of the full support of the Government of Edo State.”

NASU tasks Lagos govt on welfare of members
NON-ACADEMIC Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, has called on the Lagos State government to improve salary increase conceded as allowance to NASU members to in that state.
Leaders of NASU members in schools and colleges Trade Group Council, in a communique at the end of a meeting held in Awka, Anambra State, said council urges the Lagos state Government to improve on the percentage salary increase conceded as allowance to NASU members to in that state. Council urges the other state Governors to tow the part of the five states Government and approve appreciable percentage salary increase to the Non-teaching workers in their primary and post primary schools system, premised on NASU proposed 37.5%.
..Warns of industrial unrest in Imo, Oyo, others
LEADERS of Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, have called on state Governors and Abuja FCT, who are yet to implement the peculiarity allowance for NASU members, to do so immediately in the interest of industrial harmony.
In a communique at the end of their meeting held in Awka, Anambra State, Leaders of NASU members in schools and colleges Trade Group called on “Governments of Imo, Oyo, Ondo, Plateau, Bauchi, Delta, Ebonyi, and Gombe states that have earlier met with NASU on the demand to honourably act positively on the demand. The council -in-session notes with large concerns and disappointment, the unyielding attitude of some State Governments towards taking positive action on the NASU proposed unified scheme and conditions of service, salary table and proposed peculiarity allowance forwards to State Governors since July, 2008 and October, 2009 for consideration and implementation to the Non-teaching staff in Primary and Post Primary Schools respectively, in the country.”
“Council commends the Osun State Governments for taking the lead and emulated by the Governments of Nasarawa, Lagos, Ogun and Kwara states in responding positively to the demand of NASU in this regard. Council therefore, thank the Executive Governors of Osun, Nasarawa, Ogun, Kwara and Lagos states, for graciously approving 20%and 12.5% peculiarity allowance for NASU Members in their states primary and post.”
