Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, has asked those opposed to President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2011 presidential bid to stop the campaign as it amounts to challenging God.
Yakowa told reporters in Kaduna yesterday that God zoned the Presidency to Jonathan and that it was futile trying to work contrary to God’s decision.
Yakowa said: “I want people to please respect the zoning of God.” He denied reports that the Kaduna governorship seat had been zoned to the Central Senatorial zone of the state in 2011.
His said: “I am not aware of when anybody sat down and zoned the ticket to the central zone of Kaduna State.
“We are in a democracy and even here at the council chambers when we (the Northern Governors’ Forum) debated the issue, we discovered that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to aspire to be anything from President to councilor.”
“By so doing, everybody is exercising his constitutional right. In the process, you can dialogue with one another. I am sure that democracy allows that.
“But for me and for us here, our position is very clear, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was until recently, the governor of this state and now, he is the number two citizen and he is together with the President on the same ticket and we are here solidly in support of Jonathan/Sambo ticket.”
He said that his greatest challenge since he was elevated to the position of Governor last may has been how to generate enough resources to be able to meet substantial needs of the people.
“We are talking about security. Much as we do a lot under Operation Yaki, you see that there is the need to do a little bit more.
“You go to education, health, agriculture, poverty alleviation and infrastructural development and I want to open up the new city and all these need resource mobilization to meet the needs of the people.
“I am grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to serve this state and this nation in this capacity.
“The past months have been a period of settling down and as I said during my inauguration, it is a period of continuity.
“I came in at the middle of the year and as someone who has been in government for several years, I believe in continuity.
“That is precisely what we are doing right now as I prepare for the 2011 elections which will be the budget of this administration and we are tagging it Budget of Reality.
“Very recently, I have embarked on local government tour during which I am inspecting federal government projects which have direct bearing on this state as well as state government projects and local government projects.
“The activities of these three tiers of government complement one another. That is what we are supposed to be doing and not operating at cross purposes because ultimately, we are serving the same clientele and the same people and that is why there has to be harmony and coordination in all the three tiers of government for us to be able to have maximum effect,” Yakowa said.
