Onwe under attack over open letter to Elechi

By Peter Okutu

ABAKALIKI—THE Senator representing Ebonyi Central senatorial district, Dr.Emmanuel Onwe, has come under severe criticism for writing an open letter to Governor Martin Elechi alleging threat to his life by the governor.

Consequently, a former member of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, who is currently contesting for House of Representatives, Mr. Linus Okorie, has criticised the manner Senator Onwe exploited the media for attack on Elechi instead of seeking dialogue with the governor, as someone who hailed from the same community as the governor.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki, yesterday, Okorie described Senator Onwe’s allegation as vituperation, uncouth language, puerile outbursts and outright insults directed at the governor without justification.

“I am holding this briefing as a citizen of Ebonyi who knows and believes that what is right is right, who is convinced that our governor and the party deserve a lot better than the deal from Senator Onwe, himself, an otherwise respected elite.

“A citizen who is unshaken in my conviction that the senator had less than noble intents in taking the course he has chosen on this matter and one who is determined that the eccentric resort to vilifying His Excellency for every failing of yester-year political mavericks should and must now stop because such is undeserved and unjustified,” said Okorie.

He expressed surprise that Senator Onwe, as a lawyer and supposedly learned person, founded his entire argument and accusations on a purported hearsay, noting that it was as disheartening as he found Onwe’s story confoundingly inexcusable that a man of his assumed social standing and repute would take up arms against his entire state on account only of unverified reports emanating from some people he said were disgruntled-opportunistic-political hirelings.
