Okogie tasks Nigerians on vigilance

By Sam Eyoboka

LAGOS—CATHOLIC Archbishop of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has called on Nigerians to be vigilant at all times, just as he commended the nation’s security agents for intercepting 13 containers of deadly weapons including bombs and rocket launchers at the Apapa ports.

He described the find as an act of illegality and criminality which should be condemned by all Nigerians.

Reacting to the news at a press parley in his office in Lagos, the cardinal stressed the need for all Nigerians to be vigilant at this crucial moment of the nation’s history, stating that the authorities should stop at nothing to unveil the importers of the deadly weapons.

He said: “The security of this country should be uppermost in our minds. More security measures should be put in place in this country. The security agencies should double up their efforts just the way they have done to intercept these arms at the ports.”

Continuing, Okogie said security chiefs in the country who had been found wanting on a number of occasions, must be alert because, according to him, “a lot is wrong in this country. Anything could have happened.

“The security agents must be ready for any eventuality in the interest Nigerians.”

He also called on all Nigerians to be vigilant because the security of lives and property could not be left in hands of security agents alone.
