Trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) resumed Monday, on an impressive note as the indices for measuring the performance of listed equities, the market capitalisation and the All share index both appreciated by 0.22 per cent each.
Specifically, the capitalisation rose by N17.22 billion to close at N7.876 trillion from N7.859 trillion at which it opened, while the index soared by 53.94 bases points to close at 24,665.50 points from 24,611.56 points.
The improvement was occasioned by gains on the share prices of highly capitalised, led by Total Nigeria Plc, with a gain of N11.26 to close at N236.61 per share, Nigerian Bottling Company Plc followed with a gain of N1.40 to close at N31.50 per share and Flour Mills Nigeria Plc garnered N1.00 to close at N70.00 per share.
Other share price gainers include: Nigerian Breweries Plc N0.78, Unilever Nigeria Plc N0.30, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc N0.25, International Breweries Plc N0.25, Eterna Oil and Gas Plc N5.40, Oceanic Bank Plc N0.12, Intercontinental Bank Plc N0.11, among others.
Conoil Plc led on the losers table dropping by N1.83 to close at N34.80 per share, Ecobank Transnational Incorporation Plc followed with a loss of N0.60 to close at N15.01 per share and Oando Plc dipped by N0.50 to close at N67.00 per share.
Other share price losers include: Nigerian Aviation Handling Company N0.49, NCR Nigeria Plc N0.36 to close at N6.94 per share, Okomu Oil Palm Plc N0.35 to close at N13.90 per share, University Press Plc N0.35 to close at N6.83 per share, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc N0.27, National Salt Company Nigeria Plc N0.20, among others.
However, equity trading dipped by 30.42 per cent, as a turnover of 242.94 million shares valued at N1.63 billion was recorded in 5,305 deals, compared to Friday’s turnover of 349.19 million shares valued at N1.74 billion in 5,377deals.
The Banking sub-sector was the most active on the sectorial analysis, accounting for 80.83 per cent of the market turnover with 196.37 million shares valued at N1.10 million in 3,346 deals. Oceanic Bank International Plc recorded the highest activity in the sub-sector, trading 63.95 million shares valued at N167.61 million in 280 deals, Finbank Plc followed with the exchange of 19.15 million shares valued at N17.66 million in 139 deals and Zenith Bank Plc recorded 18.31 million shares valued at N272.11 million in 384 deals.
The Insurance sub-sector followed on the sectorial analysis, accounting for 5.15 per cent of the market turnover with 12.52 million shares valued at N9.08 million in 162 deals. Oasis Insurance Plc led the sub-sector trading three million shares valued at N1.50 million in three deals, Goldlink Insurance Plc followed with the exchange of 2.73 million shares valued at N1.36 million in 14 deals and AIICO Insurance Plc recorded 2.28 million shares valued at N2.09 million in 57 deals.
