Yenagoa —  Environment Rights Action, ERA, has expressed concern over what it described as the deteriorating security situation in the creeks of Bayelsa State in the wake of the recent upsurge in pirate attacks on the waterways.

Only last week, a native of Olugbobiri, identified as Suwo Sanga narrowly escaped being killed by suspected pirates around Igbomotoru creek along one of the canals constructed by the Chief Melford Okilo administration of old Rivers State when Bayelsa was part of the former.

Though Sanga was lucky to have escaped alive with his speedboat and serious bullet injuries, he is currently receiving treatment at Korokorosei Cottage Hospital in the Southern Ijaw council area of the state. Others were not that fortunate as they were killed by the rampaging hoodlums.

It was learnt that the victim of the pirate was alone towing a tank to his community when he was accosted by the hoodlums numbering four and armed with guns and other dangerous weapons.
