Empowerment means putting money in people’s pockets – Nominee

By Austin Ogwuda
ASABA — A Commissioner nominee in Delta State, yesterday, threw the state House of Assembly members, into laughter, when he said, in response to a question put to him, that ‘empowerment’ means putting money into the pockets of the people.

Meanwhile, a middle-aged man, described as a die-hard loyalist to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was, yesterday, ordered to be arrested for disrupting proceedings at the Delta State House of Assembly.

The man (names withheld), stormed the Assembly during the screening of nominees for appointment as commissioners, yelling that members of the House should ensure that Uduaghan is returned during the re-run election.

As he spoke, proceedings were temporarily stopped but the member representing Aniocha North constituency Mr. Victor Ochei, shortly after moved a motion calling for sanction against the man “for desecrating this hallowed chambers”.

The motion was unanimously adopted, as the Acting Speaker, Mr. Basil Ganagana, ordered that the man “be arrested and detained.”

But the entire Assembly chambers was thrown into laughter, when one of the nominees was asked what is empowerment and he replied, “empowerment is putting money in the pockets of people.”
