Elechi backs Jonathan for president

By Peter Okutu
ABAKALIKI—THE potential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party and gubernatorial aspirant in Ebonyi State, Chief Martin Elechi, said yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan remained the only credible candidate in the line up of aspirants contesting 2011 general elections.

Governor Elechi, who flagged off his campaign, weekend, at Abakaliki town ship stadium in the midst of over 10,000 persons, drawn from various local government areas of the state, called on Ebonyians to give 100% support to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

He added that the president had the courage, good will and determination to correct the ills in the country.
He said: “I expect 99% of your votes as I run for governorship in the state but as you do that, I want you to give 100% of your votes to Jonathan.

“He is the only credible candidate for now. Let us vote massively for him. He is courageous enough to address the ills in the country.

“So far, he has been able to handle the distribution of resources equitably and we are happy about that”
Governor Elechi appreciated the large turn out of people at his flag off exercise but noted that the whole essence of their support would amount to nothing if they did not register in the forth coming Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, voters registration billed for next year

The governor pointed out that he would remain resolute in the pursuit of his campaign promises, adding that he would not fold his arms and allow the opposition in the state to take his second term campaign for a ride.

His words: “I have no political enemies. What I have are friends and brothers who, in their idiosyncrasies, want thing to be done their own way.

“God should help to bring about the emergence of the best candidate in Ebonyi . Only God knows the best candidate. But if anybody challenges our peaceful disposition, we shall stand our ground and fight.”
