Pankshin (Plateau)—As Muslims celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir worldwide, Police authorities in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau, have stepped up surveillance to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Mr. Sule Pama, Divisional Police Officer in the area, said, yesterday, that the measure became necessary because unruly youths had always taken advantage of such moments to commit crime.
He said: “In fact, it is not only during Sallah celebrations that we step up such patrols; we do that also during Christian festivities like Easter and Christmas.
“We have also discovered that some youths, in a bid to make quick money to celebrate ‘big’, use all kings of tactics to get what they want. We are poised to stop that.”
The Police officer lauded his men’s efforts toward maintaining peace and getting rid of hoodlums in the area.
He said: “Our men have performed remarkably well, but we have the community leaders to thank for such efforts. They have been very cooperative.”
Pama particularly lauded the efforts of Police/ Community Relations Committee, PCRC, stressing that the committee had been able to break lots of new grounds.
NAN reports that a major achievement of the force was last month’s arrest of a notorious gang that specialised in house breaking, car snatching and pick pocketing.
