UGHELLI — AHEAD of the forthcoming gubernatorial re-run in Delta State, the people of Isoko ethnic nationality in the state, have resolved to re-affirm their mandate for Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to return to Government House, Asaba by voting en-masse for him.
Political leaders in the area have therefore set up campaign committees in each Ward to mobilise support for the former Governor and embarked on voter’s education.
Addressing Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, supporters in his country home in Owhe-Ologbo, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state, the State Commissioner for Energy, Mr Ovuozourie Macaulay, said the court verdict that ordered a re-run election in the state would not alter the support of Isoko people and Delta South Senatorial District for Uduaghan to complete his eight-year tenure as Governor of the state.
Macaulay said the people of the district have always determined the direction of the state politics, by ensuring that who ever they support gets victory, adding that the district played a leading role in the election of former Governors Felix Ibru and Chief James Ibori. He wondered why the turn of Delta South should be truncated by anyone.
He said: “Less than 24 hours after the court’s ruling, the National Headquarters of the PDP came out to say that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan remains the party’s candidate for the re_run election.
The President of this country, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has also come out to say that he will personally lead Uduaghan’s campaign team to Delta State and make sure that Uduaghan return as governor whenever INEC fix date for the re_run election”.
Dismissing the rumour that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan was being hunted for by the anti graft agencies, he said the former Governor was never arrested. He added that the rumour was the imagination of political opponents.
Macaulay advised the people to reach out for their INEC voters’ cards and get ready to vote Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan back as Governor and cautioned against what he called mischievous Elders who may parade candidates of others parties.
He said: “We must reject such Elders. We must reject any offer that goes with it. We are too enlightened to be deceived. We must be able to tell them no. If power leaves the South Senatorial District we stand to loose. We have done it for the Central before, today it is the turn of the South”.
Also speaking, a member of House of Representative Mr. Leo Ogor said the National Assembly caucus of Delta Representative have resolved to support Dr. Uduaghan by giving all the support needed at all levels to return him to Government House Asaba.
On his part, the member representing the people in the State House of Assembly Mr. Tim Owhefere said the PDP leaders in the area have all it takes to win the re-run election because of their record of achievement and that of the former Governor.
