EBEDEI community in Ukwuani local government Area of Delta State has called on the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, and Platform Petroleum Limited, PPL, to effect the change of UMUTU/Asuakpu marginal field’s name.
The call was contained in a petition sent by the community to the Minister of Environment and signed by the executives of Ebedei Community Oil and Gas Management Committee, ECOGMC, and the Okpala-Uku of Umueziogoli, HRM Chiogwu James Ajeh; Okpala-Uku of Adonishaka HRM Edike Okwendi; Okpala_Uku of Umuosele HRM Gold Odum Ebinum and Okpala_Uku of Ogbeuzu HRM Idegbe Enuma and made available to Vanguard in Asaba, the state capital.
The community stressed that they wanted the aforesaid marginal field to be changed to Umutu/Asuokpu/Ebedei or Egbeoma Marginal field.
The Ebedei community stated that publications where it was alleged that Platform register Nigeria forth CMD project and Nigeria Asuokpu/Umutu gets CDM Approval is misleading, erroneous and unacceptable.
In the petition the community said; “We the Ebedei community feel constrained and disgusted to bring to your esteemed attention the obvious act perpetrated by SPDC, DPR and PPL in the registration and superimposition of Umutu/Asuokpu field on Ebedei community.”
The community called on the Minister of Environment to prevail on PPL to effect the change since the decision to effect that change had been taken at earlier meetings where representatives of DPR, SPDC, four host communities from the area, were in attendance.
