CAPDAN relaxes stance on products price listing in media

Traders in the largest ICT market in Africa, the Computer Village Ikeja have gone back to   newspaper product price  listing despite  initial ban by the  Computer and Allied Products  Dealers Association of Nigeria, (CAPDAN), according to Vanguard CyberLIFE findings.

The initial ban which was followed by  strict sanction  was to allow small traders  in the market  to survive fierce  competition. Banning newspaper product listing in the said market,  keen observers said is illegal  anti-competitive measure in a free market economy like Nigeria.

“We cannot sanction anybody who engage in newspaper product price listing. It is illegal. It is anti- competitive. An ICT vendor had earlier taking CAPDAN to court to question why such ban. The policy is still in place but CPADAN has relaxed on it and there is no legal backing. No court of competent jurisdiction can try the case on non compliance” a CAPDAN official who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard CyberLIFE in an interaction, Monday in Lagos.

According to him, in a free market economy, people should be allowed to operate freely without any unfair practice by market union., according to Vanguard CyberLIFE findings.
